The six-acre grounds already hold a KABOOM! playground, a community garden, a basketball area, a food pantry, and after-school programs run in collaboration with the City's Parks, After School, Recreation and Community Services Department.
HOW IT CAME TO BE
The Community Was Already Finding Belonging Here
Drag to see the transformation.
01
The Need
Wesley was already a place people turned to in moments of vulnerability—from a community grieving the tragic loss of a local student to LGBTQ+ neighbors seeking belonging and families navigating the challenges of the surrounding neighborhood. The need was for an outdoor space that could more intentionally hold grief, foster safety and belonging, and offer a welcoming place for healing and connection.
02
The Vision
Wesley church members, neighborhood residents, high school students, and local community partners envisioned a welcoming, sensory landscape for reflection, safety, and belonging. Art-filled panels, sound, warm pathways, protective boulders, and places to pause create a flexible space that can evolve with community art, expression, and gathering over time.
