What happens here
Visitors pass through the Portal and journey along a path of plants and benches to the sundials. People of all ages come here for peace and reflection, and the feelings the park stirs — rest, encouragement, reflection — mirror the centre's mission of long-term care for the elderly.
HOW IT CAME TO BE
A box on the bucket list of his heart.
01
The Need
The Piedmont Health Care Center provides long-term care to the elderly. Its residents, and the people who visit them, needed somewhere outdoors that answered that stage of life rather than ignored it.
02
The Vision
Benjamin Ingram, a dentist by profession but a Firesoul at heart, checked off a box on what the source calls the bucket list of his heart by creating the park. He sees it as a Sacred Place for all "sojourners" to experience the healing nature can bring to a life.
03
The Transformation
A shaded structure named the Portal now leads visitors into the rest of the park, an apt name for what it does. From there a path of plants and benches carries them to two large sundials, one horizontal and one analemmatic — an elliptical design — so that visitors experience the endless movement of time and seasons.
