What happens here
Thanksgiving Place is the gathering centre and place of reflection for individuals and for the community at large, and the bell tower calls the community to gather and reflect.
HOW IT CAME TO BE
Finished in time for Thanksgiving.
01
The Need
The historic Memorial Stadium had stood on this ground in the Ednor Gardens/Lakeside neighbourhood. What replaced it, Stadium Place, provides mixed income housing and supportive services for older adults alongside an intergenerational community built with the Y of Central Maryland and, more recently, the Gilchrist Center Baltimore.
02
The Vision
GEDCO works in partnership with faith-based and community organizations to provide affordable housing, support services, food, and emergency assistance to neighbours in need. GEDCO, Nature Sacred, and the Baltimore community worked together to see the vision become reality just in time for Thanksgiving 2006.
03
The Transformation
The former stadium site now holds flowering gardens, groves of trees, benches, and a labyrinth, and most distinctively a bell tower watching over the whole space.

From the Little Yellow Journal
Thank you to everyone who imagined, designed, built, fund-raised and loved this project into being! I hope to have something like this in my own neighborhood soon.
