What happens here

Community members and faculty use the labyrinth for workshops, community events, and class sessions. Summer programs invite multiple inner city schools to come and walk it and enjoy the garden. Curiosity about the labyrinth has itself played a role in building and strengthening community bonds, since everyone has an interest in it.

HOW IT CAME TO BE

Privacy for the first walk.

01

The Need

St. Paul's is a K-12 college preparatory school near Baltimore City, and further from downtown than most Nature Sacred projects.

02

The Vision

The Community Labyrinth and Peace/Meditation Garden were conceived as tools for students and the wider community to understand how important quiet time is to a physically, mentally, and spiritually balanced life. The school treats the space as an expression of its openness to others rather than a private amenity.

03

The Transformation

The labyrinth's location was chosen so that it offers privacy — both to people trying it for the first time and to those returning many times.
