What happens here
Students from B.B. Comer BRIDGES are a short walk away and play a vital role in maintaining the area. After-school students and volunteers will keep the pizza garden at the centre.
HOW IT CAME TO BE
A garden the students keep.
01
The Need
Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement works to provide meaningful opportunities for families, contribute to community growth, improve quality of life, and promote the safety and wellbeing of children and families across Talladega County. Its BRIDGES program runs in four locations across Talladega County and City Schools and Sylacauga City Schools.
02
The Vision
The Sacred Place would provide a natural walkway facilitating peace and tranquility for the community, designed from the outset to engage students in its care rather than simply serve them.
03
The Transformation
A circular pathway now runs the site, including a handicap-accessible walkway. The middle circle holds four nature rooms filled with different plants, shrubs, herbs, flowers, and trees, giving different scents, textures, and colours, with a mix of fruits and vegetables among them to awaken the senses. The inner circle will hold a pizza garden. Trees and fencing around the whole block outside noise and distraction.
