HOW IT CAME TO BE

The bench that set the pattern.

01

The Need

Port Isobel is a 250-acre island east of Tangier Island, Virginia. Much of it was donated to CBF in the late 1980s.

02

The Vision

A bench already on the island became the inspiration for the hallmark curved back of the Nature Sacred bench. The design of the whole network's signature object came from here.

03

The Transformation

The island is now home to two Nature Sacred benches. One is almost hidden among grasses taller than the bench itself, offering a view of the Chesapeake Bay. The other sits at the end of the dock, where it acts as a portal to the education centre.
