HOW IT CAME TO BE

Nature in the places people already live.

01

The Need

Backyard Basecamp exists to inspire and empower Black, Indigenous, and all people of colour to explore and find nature in the places they live. The ten-acre BLISS Meadows site sits at the intersection of environmental and food justice.

02

The Vision

A Sacred Place would give community members, staff, volunteers, and all visitors a healing and restorative location within that work.

03

The Transformation

The Sacred Place is anchored by the site's upper pond, which is uniquely situated with a beautiful vista across the site and sits adjacent to a natural entryway into the woods.
