What happens here

Visitors sit at the bench overlooking the lake, connect with neighbours, and meet new friends while their dogs do the same.

HOW IT CAME TO BE

Even the furry ones.

01

The Need

Heflin has proximity to the South Appalachian Mountains, a nearby watershed, and community recreation, and wanted to add a Sacred Place to encourage mindful reflection, healing, stress reduction, and mood enhancement.

02

The Vision

One thing any out-of-towner should know about Heflin is that it is a community of dog lovers. That is why the Sacred Place includes a dog run: it was designed to serve all community members, the furry ones included.

03

The Transformation

The dog run sits within Cahluga Creek Park on Cahluga Creek Lake, a gem within the city limits featuring an award-winning disc-golf course, fishing piers, bathhouse and pavilion facilities, and open and forest trails. The bench overlooks the lake.
