What happens here
The Peace Garden is used as the centrepiece for mediation sessions themselves, not just as somewhere to walk afterward. Staff use it to take a breath and regroup, and neighbours, community supporters, and community groups enjoy it too.
HOW IT CAME TO BE
The garden is part of the mediation.
01
The Need
The neighbourhood desperately needed a green space that would support and reaffirm residents' dedication to a peaceful existence.
02
The Vision
The Mediation Program provides free mediation services, teaches conflict resolution skills, mobilizes volunteer community mediators, and educates the public. By making mediation and other nonviolent strategies more accessible across Baltimore City, it reduces violence and interpersonal animosity while improving communication. The garden was to make that mission visible in the ground.
03
The Transformation
The Peace Garden is beautiful and environmentally friendly in its design, and became the centrepiece the sessions are held around.
