HOW IT CAME TO BE
They outgrew the building.
01
The Need
Urban Dreams has served Des Moines since 1985 with human service programs that break down barriers for underserved and underrepresented populations. The number of people served rises every year and the programs rise with it — a food pantry, mental health and substance abuse treatment, community connection gatherings — and the organization has outgrown its office space.
02
The Vision
The new 11,000 square foot Wellmark Urban Dreams Community Center will let them meet those needs better, with bright natural light, an esports lab, dedicated space for the mental health and substance abuse programs, a food pantry community members can browse easily, and a large event space with outdoor access. Understanding how much nature matters within that suite of services, Urban Dreams approached Nature Sacred to design a Sacred Place at the new premises, having already worked together to activate the courtyard at their former offices.
