What happens here

The garden is a place to be still, to listen to birds sing, and to feel the sun on one's face while looking out at the water. It holds 32 growing beds, a children's growing area, a small seating garden, a central structure for storage, meeting areas, and a greenhouse.

HOW IT CAME TO BE

Decades of everything at once.

01

The Need

The Edgemere community in New York City's Jamaica Bay area has experienced decades of disinvestment, environmental and social injustice, flooding, pollution, and the effects of wildfires, and is in dire need of a community healing space.

02

The Vision

Founded in 2021, the garden already draws people seeking healing. Layering in a Sacred Place would provide additional designated spaces for community gatherings and enhance the capacity for healing that community members already come here looking for.
