What happens here

The farm provides fresh produce, educational programs, and a sense of community, serving as a beacon of hope and resilience amid challenging circumstances.

HOW IT CAME TO BE

From serving the country to serving the block.

01

The Need

In the Johnston Square neighborhood of East Baltimore, access to parks, playgrounds, and green spaces is severely lacking.

02

The Vision

Founded in 2010 by military veterans, The Sixth Branch was born from a desire to move from serving their country to serving their local community. It has grown from a community service club into a significant force for change, stewarding more than 20 acres of green space and providing volunteer and technical support to community groups and schools, combining its values of service, partnership, equity, impact, and sustainability with the guidance of neighborhood leaders. A Sacred Place at the farm would be a sanctuary where people could find solace and rejuvenation amid the urban landscape, and reconnect with themselves, their neighbors, and the natural world.
