The park needed a front door.

The Need
As conversations with stakeholders evolved it became obvious that the PeacePark needed a central location, welcoming and accessible to all, to orient people arriving. Whether visitors come to volunteer, walk in the woods, or attend a meeting or social event, there was nowhere for the visit to begin. The site is steeply sloped, which made accessibility a first-order problem rather than an afterthought.

The Vision
The Gateway is to be the heart of the PeacePark, comprising the visitor's center, an outdoor classroom, a demonstration garden, a place for quiet reflection, and a place for play. Accessibility for those who cannot reach the steeper parts of the park was treated as essential.
