What happens here

Neighbours already walk their dogs here, people pick fresh produce from the orchard, and children play or read.

HOW IT CAME TO BE

Already in use, without being designed.

01

The Need

The site sits sandwiched between an abandoned factory and a six-lane expressway, three-quarters of a mile from where the TOP Market shooting occurred in 2022. Fillmore Forward works to create a sense of place by improving quality of life, restoring economic vitality, and increasing inclusiveness, health, and wealth in Buffalo's Broadway-Fillmore and Martin Luther King communities through grassroots organizing and public-private partnerships.

02

The Vision

The aim is a destination in the community, a place of respite surrounded by plants and greenspace. Fillmore Forward wants to add a wildflower garden, paths, benches, and gathering around the existing pavilion. Because the garden abuts a City-owned open space corridor, they also want a design that builds off and complements that existing infrastructure.
