What happens here

SLYC is run by and for families who live or work in West Baltimore, giving them access to caregiver support groups, coworking space with computers and internet, career support, summer camps, and children's enrichment programming.

HOW IT CAME TO BE

The plans already exist.

01

The Need

SLYC serves Franklin Square, Poppleton, and surrounding low-income neighbourhoods, where families navigate not just parenthood but food insecurity, economic insecurity, and crime. The site is gated for security reasons.

02

The Vision

Some design needs were already determined through a charrette held as part of planning work several years ago, a retreat for caregivers among them. Nature Sacred's partnership would restore those dreams to the forefront and turn them into reality, while the community-led engagement process supports SLYC's interest in increasing safety, accessibility, and involvement of the broader community.
